BECCA HORN x LOVELY SS15.

I had been looking forward to shooting a fashion story in which I’d be able to include part of my personal work. So when we got the opportunity to shoot for Lovely, we booked a weekend at the Atlantis Bahia Real in Fuerteventura and flew out there with Becca. Basically, we spent a couple of days there laughing, drinking champagne for breakfast, freezing at 6am in the middle of the desert, getting sunburnt at 12pm in the middle of the desert and basically just having an amazing time creating.

I had been asking myself how spending more time with the model –and thus developing a closer relationship- would impact the imagery (Venetia Scott mentions this several times during her interview on ShowStudio that I strongly recommend). And I guess I now know the answer.

LAURA.

I want a girl with
A mind like a diamond
I want a girl who
Knows what's best
I want a girl with
Shoes that cut
And eyes that burn
Like cigarettes.
I want a girl with a short skirt and a long jacket.

FUERTEVENTURA #2

(text in Spanish below)

I don't have a hometown. With hometown I mean the sort of place where you'd return during the summer every year to try to make out with the girl that used to ignore you when you were 14 because you wore braces. Maybe it's something specifically Spanish, I don't really know. My mom's from Andalusia (the south) and my dad from Asturias (the north), so I was kind of stuck in the middle. When I was three they decided to make Fuerteventura my hometown and, since then, it has been. The best of hometowns (homeislands?) actually.

The thing is, as it usually happens with stuff we see every day, it stops surprising you. And it makes me angry, cause I know I love Fuerteventura and I count the days from september to august to get back there and feel the sand under my feet, but I would get there and never unpack my camera. I mean, I would take it with me, but you know, kind of like the guy who takes his textbooks with him for to the beach (really?).

So a couple of years ago I decided to make myself look again. There's more photos of this series here.

Fuerteventura
